Vericare (formerly Senior Psychology Services) was
incorporated and began serving patients in the summer of 1991. The Company was founded
shortly after Medicare began recognizing psychologists as independent health care
providers to Medicare beneficiaries. Before this, older adults could not receive
psychological treatment unless they paid out-of-pocket for these professional services.
|
|
Another event precipitating the
development of Vericare was the growing national trend toward nursing home reform. Much of
this reform took place during the 1980's, and culminated in the federal
Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) of 1987, which mandated
several changes in the care of nursing home residents, emphasizing patient rights and
quality of life issues. |
 |
Today,
Vericare remains committed to
our fundamental goal, namely, to provide quality psychological and psychiatric services to
older adults. These services include: assessment, individual, group and family counseling,
behavior medicine, assistance with management of behavior problems, staff consultation and inservice
training.
|
|
To be the nation's leading provider of quality mental
health and behavioral health care to older adults.
|

Our trained, skilled professionals address the needs of the
individual experiencing feelings of depression, anger, sadness or frustration due to their
current station in life, their loss of functional abilities, or due to conflicting family
relations or perceived abandonment by their loved ones. |
| Our assessment and treatment services play an increasingly
important role in working with the elderly population. Psychological assessment is of
great assistance to nursing staff and other members of the treatment team. These
assessments will identify underlying causes or psychodynamics' of the dysfunction, and
also residual strengths of the individual, and recommend interventions that will help the
staff maximize patient functioning and enhance the care provided. |
 |
Vericare strives to become an
integral member of a facility's treatment team. This requires a commitment to
interdisciplinary communication, a willingness to confer with staff, families and
administration, and to facilitate the integration of the mental health services into the
overall plan of care for the residents.
Vericare is also dedicated to enhancing the skills and training
of psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers working in long-term care and to
helping this profession become firmly established among the team of health care providers
in this area. |
